Program Manager
The
Program Manager
in the
Microsoft Windows 3.x series
operating systems
gave users a way to configure their
desktop computers
through a
Graphical user interface
. The user-friendly GUI replaced the text-based
shells
of previous operating systems and enabled non-technical users to change settings on their computer without seeking assistance. In later versions of
Windows
, including
Windows 95
and
Windows NT
, the Program Manager was replaced by
Windows Explorer
. The Program Manager is still included in the later versions of Microsoft Windows. It can be accessed by navigating to the C:\windows driectory\PROGMAN.EXE in Windows 98 or the C:\winnt\PROGMAN.EXE directory in Windows NT or 2000.
