Prince Sigvard, Duke Of Uplandia

Prince Sigvard of Sweden (June 7, 1907 - February 4, 2002), Duke of Uplandia, was the second son of King Gustav VI Adolf of Sweden. In 1934 he married Erica Patzek, a commoner, and due not having acquired consent for the marriage from the monarch he lost his princely title and was excluded from the line of succession. On July 2, 1951 he was created Count Bernadotte af Wisborg, but now in the Luxembourgish nobility. In 1983, Sigvard went to the European Court of Human Rights in an effort to restore his princely title. He was successful in doing so, but King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden never obliged, nor inclined to accept such a decision.
