President's Emergency Plan For Aids ReliefPresident's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (Pepfar) is a USA government fund to combat AIDS by injecting 15 billion American dollars over a 5 year period. The plan was controversial as it the bypassed UN Global Fund as a central distribution point for relief funds and the funds could not be used to purchase generic AIDS drugs. AIDS drugs are only eligible for purchase with PEPFER funding 1) if approved by the USFDA or certain other Stringent Regulatory Authorities (generally considered to be EU countries, Japan, and Canada) and 2) if they do not violate US patent protections. The funds are focused on 15 countries (mostly in Africa), which upsets anyone associated with a country not on the list. External links
