Poznan Society Of Friends Of Arts And Sciences

Poznań Society of Friends of Arts and Sciences (Polish: Poznańskie Towarzystwo Przyjacił Nauk, PTPN) is a scientific society in Poznań, Poland, established 1875, associating researchers of all scientific branches. It was one of the biggest and most important general scientific organizations in Poland. When it was founded in the 19th century, PTPN was the main Polish scientific and cultural organization in the Prussian partition of Poland, and until the creation of Skills Academy (Akademia Umiejętności) in Cracow (1871-73) PTPN was the most important scientific society in all Polish lands. Besides strictly scientific activities the society also collected and secured the art pieces and Polish national tokens of remembrance. In 1919 PTPN was the initiator and organizer of the Poznan University, today called the Adam Mickiewicz University, UAM.
