Population Of The Byzantium EmpireTwo English writers, Foord and Holmes are the only historians that attempted to find out the total population of the Byzantine Empire but their findings are not recognised by other historians and therefore they are disregarded. However, there is no doubt that the empire was densely populated for its time. Rome, Paris, and London were overgrown villages with little infrastructure compared to Constantinople. It is claimed that in the 12th century the population of Constantinople was bigger than the population of England (between 600k to a million). Prof. Andreades puts the population of the empire around 10 to 15 million but later refrains making any more estimates.
