Popiah

Popiah is a dish common in Singapore and Malaysia. It consists of a popiah skin (thin pancake made from rice flour) in which are wrapped various ingredients. The skin is covered with a sweet chilli sauce before it is filled with the filling. The main filling ingredient is finely grated jicama or yam bean, but other vegetables such as bean sprouts, French beans and grated carrots are usually included, as well as ingredients such as dried prawns and hard-boiled eggs. Popiah parties are organised in Singapore and Malaysia, where popiah is served by laying out the various ingredients along with the skins and sauce. Guests are then invited to fill their skins with the quantity of ingredients and sauce that they prefer.
