Pop Rock

Pop rock is a genre of music that has risen in popularity in the past few years. As its name suggests, it is a fusion of the pop and rock genres. To understand what pop rock is, you must understand both pop and rock. POP - Mainly focused on lead singer (so, no band recognition) - Usually a female singer - Background music is very mechanical, doesn't use a lot of REAL instruments - Performances mostly do not use bands, focus on the singer and back up dancers/singers ROCK - Focused on entire band - Usually male lead singer - Music consists of lots of guitar (usually electric), bass guitar, and drumming - Performances have entire band present Now pop rock takes some attributes from each genre and creates an entirely unique sound. The singer is usually female, plays guitar, and writes songs. At concerts, you see more of the band present and the music is rarely at all mechanical. Some popular pop rock artists are Michelle Branch, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morisette, and Melissa Etheridge.
