Point Clear is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Baldwin County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the CDP is 1,876.

Geography

Point Clear is located at 30°29'48.505" North, 87°54'35.489" West (30.496807, -87.909858). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 14.7 km² (5.7 mi²). 14.7 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.18% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,876 people, 741 households, and 546 families residing in the community. The population density is 127.7/km² (331.1/mi²). There are 997 housing units at an average density of 67.9/km² (176.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 56.13% White, 42.70% Black or African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.05% from other races, and 0.80% from two or more races. 0.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 741 households out of which 27.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% are married couples living together, 15.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2% are non-families. 23.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.98. In the community the population is spread out with 23.8% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.8 males. The median income for a household in the community is $37,305, and the median income for a family is $45,729. Males have a median income of $39,844 versus $14,556 for females. The per capita income for the community is $26,271. 18.1% of the population and 16.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 30.2% of those under the age of 18 and 16.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
