Ploutis Servas

Ploutis Servas (greek Πλουτής Σέρβας, born Πλούταρχος Λοϊζου Σαββίδης) was the last general secretary of the Communist party of Cyprus and the first general secretary of AKEL. He was also the first elected mayor of Limassol 1943-1946 and 1946-1949. He advocated accepting the British plan of self government for Cyprus in 1948 and became isolated within his party. He was expelled in 1952. Following that he worked mainly as a reporter and a writer. His death in 2002 caused controversy in Cyprus as he had asked to be cremated.
