Platykurtic Distribution

In probability theory, a platykurtic distribution is a probability distribution with a kurtosis less than that of a normal distribution, i.e., with a kurtosis excess γ2 < 0. In terms of shape, a platykurtic distribution has a smaller "peak" around the mean (that is, a lower probability than a normally distributed variable of values near the mean) and "thin tails" (that is, a lower probability than a normally distributed variable of extreme values). An example of a platykurtic distribution is the rectangular distribution. See also: leptokurtic distribution, mesokurtic distribution
