Piru

Piru is a small town in located in Eastern Ventura County, California, near the Santa Clara River and Highway 126. Pop (2000): 1,196 Males: 597 (49.9%), Females: 599 (50.1%). Elevation: 692 feet. The main recreation activity is Lake Piru in the Los Padres National Forest. Piru is also minor evil spirit or Demon in Finnish mythology. In folklore the Piru often features as a nasty spirit of the forest with which a wise-aleck either wins or loses a battle of wits, giving or receiving a forfeit in return. The Devil is often referred to as Ppiru, literally "Headpiru". "Piru" is also a mild swearword in Finnish.
