Pinelli

Pinelli is the name of an Italian anarchist from Milan, who died after being thrown out of a police station window in 1969. The event shocked Italy. Pinelli was apprehended by the Milan police a short time after the Piazza Fontana terrorist attack, when a bomb was detonated in this main square of Milan killing 16 innocent bystanders. Anarchists were initially blamed for the attack, and Pinelli, an anarchist who worked in a railway station, was led to the police station for questioning. Some time later, his body was found dead in the courtyard, after he had been pushed out of a fifth floor window. The police insisted its innocence and claimed Pinelli commited suicide, but few people believed them. the police officer Calabresi who was in the room when Pinelli was pushed out of the window, was later killed by the far-left splinter group Lotta Continua as a revenge, in 1974. In the mean time, Pinelli's name has been cleared, and it is now accepted by most historians that it was neo-fascist organizations which planted the bomb in Piazza Fontana.
