Pinckard is a town located in Dale County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 667.

Geography

Pinckard is located at 31°18'46" North, 85°32'45" West (31.312803, -85.545713). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²). 13.8 km² (5.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.19% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 667 people, 270 households, and 197 families residing in the town. The population density is 48.2/km² (125.0/mi²). There are 287 housing units at an average density of 20.8/km² (53.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 78.56% White, 17.84% Black or African American, 0.75% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.70% from two or more races. 3.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 270 households out of which 26.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.7% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.7% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.96. In the town the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.9 males. The median income for a household in the town is $36,875, and the median income for a family is $41,176. Males have a median income of $27,083 versus $18,036 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,214. 7.1% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.1% of those under the age of 18 and 14.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
