Pierre Falardeau

Pierre Falardeau (born on December 12, 1946 in Montreal) is a Quebec film and documentary director, an intellectual, pamphleteer and renown radical Quebec independence activist.

Profile

Falardeau studied anthropology at university; he briefly was a teacher of the subject. In the 60's, he got involved in the inependentist Rassemblement pour l'indpendance nationale. A passionate believer in the struggle for Quebec independence, something that in present in most of his films, his interests also lie in many international struggles for national independence and decolonization; this brought him notably to film a documentary on the Algerian people. He occasionally publishes in the Le Couac independent newspaper. A well known trait of his is his mixing of intellectual reflexion with a popular, Joual and sometimes coarse language. Partly because of the direct, colurful, sardonic and explosive nature of his style, he is often sought after for on-air opinions by the media.
