Philippe De Cherisey

Philippe de Cherisey was a French writer and humourist. He created parchments for his friend Pierre Plantard showing the survival of the Merovingian line of Frankish kings and Plantard's descent from the Frankish king Dagobert II. About fifteen of these documents were introduced into the Bibliothque Nationale in Paris during the 1960s. Cherisey should not be seen as a fraudster, but as a humourist. It is believed that Plantard took him seriously. The documents have been used as one of the primary sources for the The Da Vinci Code. Recently it has been shown that the text of one document (parchment 1) was copied from Codex Bezae, an Old Latin/Greek diglot from the 5th century CE.
