Pettit, OklahomaPettit is a census-designated place located in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, USA. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 771. Geography Pettit is located at 35°45'20" North, 94°56'57" West (35.755558, -94.949116). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 30.0 km² (11.6 mi²). 30.0 km² (11.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 771 people, 329 households, and 227 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 25.7/km² (66.6/mi²). There are 459 housing units at an average density of 15.3/km² (39.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 64.46% White, 0.13% African American, 24.38% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 10.89% from two or more races. 1.04% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 329 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.1% are married couples living together, 8.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.84. In the CDP the population is spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 28.1% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 104.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.8 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $25,766, and the median income for a family is $26,806. Males have a median income of $25,536 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,432. 15.3% of the population and 12.7% of families are below the poverty line.
