Pero Cameron

Sean Pero MacPherson Cameron (born 6 May 1974) is a New Zealand professional basketball player. Cameron, a 1.98 m (6'6") and 120 kg (265 lb) forward, is currently captain of the Tall Blacks, the New Zealand men's national team. Although he has the build of a power forward, he is an effective outside shooter and a good passer, skills more often found in small forwards. A Maori, Cameron originally played rugby, but eventually switched to basketball. In 1992, he began playing in New Zealand's National Basketball League. In the NBL, he has been on seven championship teams, made the league's first team seven times, and won the MVP award five times. He has also played professionally in the United Kingdom and Australia. Cameron was first selected for the Tall Blacks in 1994. In 2000, he became co-captain of the side, and was elevated to sole captain by the time of the 2002 FIBA World Championships in Indianapolis. In a tournament filled with NBA players, the Tall Blacks only had one, Sean Marks, who was injured in an early game and missed most of the tournament. The team stunned most basketball observers by finishing fourth, ahead of the host Americans. Cameron averaged 14.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in the tournament, and became the only non-NBA player to make the all-tournament team. He was joined on this team by established NBA superstars Dirk Nowitzki and Peja Stojakovic and NBA rookies-to-be Yao Ming and Manu Ginobili.
