Geography to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 174.4 km² (67.3 mi²). 171.8 km² (66.3 mi²) of it is land and 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.47% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,036 people, 429 households, and 293 families residing in the town. The population density is 6.0/km² (15.6/mi²). There are 871 housing units at an average density of 5.1/km² (13.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.59% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 1.35% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 429 households out of which 25.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.0% are married couples living together, 4.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.5% are non-families. 28.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.94.
