Geography Patterson_Township is located at 40°44'48" North, 80°19'56" West (40.746765, -80.332348). According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.59% is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,197 people, 1,261 households, and 890 families residing in the township. The population density is 734.7/km² (1,903.1/mi²). There are 1,332 housing units at an average density of 306.1/km² (792.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.40% White, 1.47% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,261 households out of which 29.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% are married couples living together, 8.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.4% are non-families. 27.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.91. In the township the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 23.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 87.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.8 males. The median income for a household in the township is $41,364, and the median income for a family is $49,402. Males have a median income of $42,286 versus $24,459 for females. The per capita income for the township is $21,982. 5.3% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line.
