Pat Howard

Patrick Howard, usually known as Pat Howard or Paddy Howard (born 14 November 1973) is a former Australian rugby union international who played centre or fly-half. Conflicting reports indicate that he was born in Brisbane or Sydney. His father Jake Howard played prop for Australia and his grandfather Cyril Towers also played centre for the Wallabies. He made his Australian debut as a 19-year old, playing for Queensland Reds, but moved to the ACT Brumbies He signed for Leicester Tigers, and became a pivotal part of their championship winning side. His displacement of Will Greenwood from the Tigers' side forced Greenwood's return to Harlequins. After the departure of backs coach Joel Stransky, he was appointed backs coach for a year before returning to the Brumbies, swapping his position with that of Rod Kafer. He failed to make a return to the Wallabies' team however, and later moved to France. He retired after the end of the 2003-4 season to return to backs' coach at Leicester.
