Pat BenatarPat Benatar (born January 10, 1953) is a popular American rock singer who had numerous hits during the 1980s such as "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" and "Love is a Battlefield". She was born Patricia Mae Andrzejewski in Brooklyn, but grew up in Lindenhurst, New York. She initially studied opera like her mother. She married Dennis T. Benatar in 1971, providing her the surname with which she became famous. She was discovered at an amateur-night contest in a New York City comedy club in 1977 and was signed to Chrysalis Records by its founder Terry Ellis. She is known for her beautiful operatic voice and tough attitude. She won four consecutive Grammy Awards for "Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female" from 1980 to 1983, and was nominated 4 additional times in 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1989. Benatar later became a commercial spokeswoman for Energizer in the hope of reaching out to baby boomers and increasing sales of hearing aid batteries.
