Park Hill PrairiePark Hill Prairie, in a USA rural area near Farmersville, Texas, in Collin County, contains one of the last north Texas stands of tallgrass blackland prairie. While most of north Texas prairie was destroyed to make farmland, the land on which Park Hill Prairie sits survived through its preservation as a hay field. Park Hill Prairie is now administered as a county park, with a hiking trail. In the Spring, this park serves as an abundant wildflower locale, as well as a birding resource, with nesting pairs of meadowlark and dickcissel. Butterflies are common here, with sightings of numerous species possible. Two small ponds at Park Hill Prairie feature sunfish fishing on a virtually year-round basis. The park is a little-used resource, located on the very gently rolling hills common to this region. The frequent mild winds common to this area, coupled with the abundant open spaces, make this an ideal kite-flying area.
