Parachute PantsParachute Pants are a style of pants or trousers given popular exposure in the 1980's and early 1990's, mainly by former megastar rapper, MC Hammer. Parachute pants are always very baggy, with a very low seat containing many folds (like a parachute), and narrow at the ankles (unlike bell bottoms or wide leg baggy jeans). They are usually woven of loose, light fabric, and printed with complex designs, ranging from neon patterns to prints resembling middle eastern pattern embroidery. Parachute pants were used primarily in coreographed hip hop and rhythm and blues dancing, with the light, baggy fabric and folds visually enhancing the flowing rhythm of the dancers' moves, and allowing for greater comfort and mobility. Infrequent in everyday fashion, this garment has received little serious exposure since the very early 1990's, though, as of this writing, parachute pants are still frequently mocked in popular culture.
