Papillon RosePapillon Rose is an adult-oriented anime, which parodies sailor moon and revolutionary girl utena. It originally started out as a joke, and the site only had a few pictures of characters (which were usually copied from scenes in Sailor Moon, save for the hair color of the characters) and a few lyrics to an opening and ending song. Demand grew due to people finding the page and assuming it was for an actual series, and in 2003, the series was picked up by the animation studio pink, and an ova was produced (Papillon Rose- Tsubomi's Night). As of now, it's unknown if another ova will be produced. The homepage was also redesigned in early 2003 and updated with fake manga covers and notes from the (fake) author. Amateur voice actors and singers were also contacted to provide sample character voice clips for a handful of the villains and heroines. An episode guide for the (non existent) first series was also made available, as well as a set of cd roms containing a 2 minute animated promotional clip, full versions of the two songs used in the series, and various desktop wallpapers and character alarm clocks. The CDs were only made available for Comike, and were not distributed outside of Japan. Oddly, the site continues to post profiles of new characters and various reincarnations of the series. Papillon R which parodies the 2nd season of Sailor Moon and Papillon G which parodies the 3rd season (S). The series is adult oriented, in that the heroines gain the ability to henshin by having sex with the resident playboy. Papillon Rose also fights with a vibrator, and works in a coffee house called Papillon, where she wears a very skimpy lingerie as her outfit. Despite it being adult-oriented, a rather large number of people under 20 seem to enjoy the series. It was originally going to be fan dubbed, but the project went on hiatus in mid 2003. It was also going to be fan subbed but since the series was picked up officially, people have decided to leave any US Distribution to anime oriented companies such as Viz Video, ADV Films and Media Blasters.
