Panzershreck

The Panzershreck is an 88mm calibre re-usable anti-tank rocket launcher developed by the Germans in WWII to give infantry an anti-tank capability. It was developed after examples of the American Bazooka were captured by the Germans in North Africa. The weapon is shoulder-launched and fires a rocket-propelled, fin-stabilised grenade with a shaped charge warhead. It replaced the less powerful Panzerfaust which was a one-shot only anti-tank weapon. The effective range of the weapon is about 150m. Its use was hazardous due to its limited range and due to the significant backblast of the projectile. Later models were fitted with a shield to protect the firer from the backblast. The correct German spelling is Panzerschreck, meaning 'something that scares tanks', lit "Tank Terror". It was often called the Ofenrohr, lit "Stovepipe".
