Pangboche Hand

The Pangboche Hand is an artifact stolen from a Buddhist monastery in Pangboche, Nepal. Supporters contend that the hand is from a Yeti, while critics argue it is a fraud. Tom Slick heard accounts of the "yeti hand" during one of his expeditions in and around the Himalayas. In 1959, a member of his party, Peter Byrne, reportedly stole the artifact after the monks who owned it refused to allow its removal for study. Actor Jimmy Stewart reportedly smuggled the hand from India. Analysis of the hand was mixed. A primatologist, Osman Hill, reportedly changed his conclusions regarding the hand several times, finally deciding it was a neandertal specimen. Controversy regarding the hand inspired Sir Edmund Hillary to investigate; he determined it was made of human bones.
