Palu

Palu is a city on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It is the capital of the province of Central Sulawesi (Sulawesi Tengah).

Events

On 23 January 2005 at 20:10 UTC, an earthquake with magnitude 6.2 Richter scale occurred in the city. The hypocenter of the earthquake was at 1.03S, 119.99E, some 16 km southeast of Palu at the depth of 30 km of Bora Village's hot spring, Biromaru sub-district, Donggala regency. Panic ensued as most people seeked refuge in the highlands for fear of a repeat of the tsunami as occurred in Aceh. The earthquake resulted in at least one casualty and 177 buildings destroyed.
