Palmer Woods, Detroit

Palmer Woods is a neighborhood on the west side of Detroit known for its elm-lined streets, large brick homes and Tudor-styled architecture. The area developed in the 1920s as an exclusive enclave for the City's managerial and business class. White-flight after the 1967 riots, as well as Dutch Elm disease in the 1970s took some of the luster of the once affluent community. However, the neighborhood is still a relatively quiet and safe area and popular with more affluent residents of the city, who can still buy practically a mansion for a very reasonable price.
