Pacifist

for the person who is a pacifist see pacifism pacifist is an Atari emulator for dos. It's task is to provide a emulated environment in which applications designed for the Atari ST platform can be used when no Atari system is available. Pacifist boast the best compatibility for any emulator of this platform. Other emulators like gemulator use aditional hardware to emulate the Atari system which would not be considered true emulation. each Atari emulator needs the Operating System originally used on the emulated systems. In this case a version of the TOS is needed. These can be extracted from a live Atari system. Use of such a ROM is illegal if no Atari system is owned. Nevertheless the roms can be found on the internet. With a proper setup Pacifist is able to run most Atari software. Exceptions are programs that use specific interupt calls to hardware that are not yet emulated or hardly documented. Allthough this emulator is considered one of the best, it is not used much anymore since it is a DOS program. There is as of yet no Windows version available. Most people will therefor use Winston or gemulator.
