Paccar

PACCAR Inc. is one of the largest manufacturers of heavy-duty trucks in the world. Based in Bellevue, Washington, it was founded in 1905 by William Pigott, Sr., as the Seattle Car Manufacturing Company. Its original business was the production of railway and logging equipment. Upon a subsequent merger with a Portland, Oregon firm, Twohy Brothers, Seattle Car Manufacturing Company became the Pacific Car and Foundry Company. Pacific Car and Foundry purchased Seattle's Kenworth Motor Truck Company in 1945 and both Peterbilt Motors Company and Dart Truck Company 13 years later. In 1972 the corporate name was officially changed to PACCAR Inc, with the Pacific Car and Foundry Company name being assigned to a division thereof. 1981 saw PACCAR's acquisition of Foden Trucks, a British manufacturer. Fifteen years later the Netherlands' DAF Trucks N.V. was brought under the PACCAR umbrella, and in 1998 PACCAR purchased the United Kingdom's Leyland Trucks. In addition to Kenworth, Peterbilt, Foden, DAF, and Leyland, PACCAR today consists of a Winch Division, marketing under the Braden, Carco, and Germatic brands; Kenworth Australia; Kenworth Mexicana; PacLease Leasing Corporation; PACCAR Financial; PACCAR Parts; PACCAR International; Truckxchange; and Dynacraft.
