Ozark, AlabamaOzark is a city in Dale County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 15,119. The city is the county seat of Dale County. Geography Ozark is located at 31°26'53" North, 85°38'31" West (31.448169, -85.642009). According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 89.3 km² (34.5 mi²). 88.7 km² (34.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.70% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 15,119 people, 6,126 households, and 4,233 families residing in the city. The population density is 170.5/km² (441.5/mi²). There are 6,955 housing units at an average density of 78.4/km² (203.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 68.28% White, 28.30% Black or African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 1.53% from two or more races. 2.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,126 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 16.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% are non-families. 27.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.40 and the average family size is 2.92. In the city the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 26.0% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $29,330, and the median income for a family is $38,633. Males have a median income of $30,236 versus $19,564 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,984. 19.0% of the population and 14.8% of families are below the poverty line.
