Ozama River

The Rio Ozama can trace it's begining to the Loma Siete Cabezas in the Sierra de Yamas close to Villa Altagracia. The river flows into the Mar Caribe (Caribbean Sea) after lazily running for 148 kilometers, at the end of the journey it splits the capital in Oriental and Occidental halves. Three other rivers flow into the Ozama:
  • The Isabela
  • The Sabita
  • The Yabacao.
Cristopher Columbus is said to have moored his ship in the river when he finally made it to the now capital.
