Ottapalam

Ottapalam is a small town in Palakkad district, Kerala, India. Situated on the banks of the Bharathapuzha river, Ottapalam has a rich cultural heritage and have hosted many historic events. KilliKurussimangalam, Lakkidi, birthplace of Kerala's famous poet and father of the traditional solo dance, Ottamthullal, Sri Kunjan Nambiar, is eight kilometers away from Ottapalam. Kerala Kalamandalam school teaching Kerala's own traditional art forms, is located in Cheruthuruthy, a few kilometers away from Ottapalam. Founded in 1927 by the revered poet Vallathol, Kerala Kalamandalam excells in training various forms of Kathakali, Koodiyattam, Mohiniyattam and other indigenous performing arts. These art forms are performed in traditional theatres attached to temples, known as Koothambalams.
