Otelu Rosu

Otelu Rosu (Hungarian: Nndorhegy, German: Ferdinandsberg) is a town in southwestern Romania (Caras-Severin county) on the Bistra river. It is situated on the D.N. 68 (national road), connecting Caransebeş, which is 15 km away, to Hateg.

History

The Ferdinand name did not please the communist and they changed it to Otelu Rosu (red steel) in order to underline its metallurgic enterprise.

Population

The population was 12,989 (2000) and 13.128 (1999).

Education

The town has 3 schools and 1 high school (Grup Şcolar Industrial).
