Original Instruments

Original instruments is a term which refers to performing musical compositions on instruments employed as they where at the time and location of the composition. The term period instruments is also used to describe this practice. Performers of classical music are often faced with the dilemma of performing works on original instruments in order to recreate an authentic performance or to use modern instruments which often are manufactured with superior technology and thus pruduce a more "pleasing" sound to our "modern" ears, or are simply easier to play. Some of the many currently active period instrument ensembles include: Boston Baroque, I Febiarmonici, The Brandenburg Consort, and Consort Veneto.
