Orders Of Council

Orders of Council

Simply put the Orders of Council stated that the United Kingdom would blockade all French ports. The Orders were put into place around 1809 and repealed in 1812. The Americans declared war on the British just two days later (the Orders of Council were one of the main causes for the Americans to declare war on Britain). The Orders of Council were Britain's attempt to wage economic warfare on the French just as the Milan Decree did to them.

Why?

The Orders of Council were put into place in retaliation to the Milan Decree put in place by the French.
