oom-pah

Oom-pah is an onomatopoeic name for a type of Germanic music (especially Bavarian music) typically involving brass instruments. It is often associated with beer halls. The name is sometimes said to come from the sound of the tuba on the root of the chord (bass) and alternate base on the following measure (5th of chord) -- this sound is said to be oom, and is followed by the clarinet's pah on the octave of the chord in each measure http://user.aol.com/accrdnmn/oompahs.html.
