One Must FallOne Must Fall (OMF) is a fighting game series for the IBM PC compatible, programmed by Diversions Entertainment. One Must Fall The original One Must Fall was a demo created in the wake of the success of Street Fighter II. It featured two human fighters resembling Ryu and Ken who fought in a single arena. Players had the option of kicking or punching their opponent. The game was never commercially released, as it was considered too repetitive and slow (although on modern computers, the game will typically run many times the original speed, rendering it unplayable). One Must Fall: 2097 Released in 1994 by Epic Games (Epic MegaGames at the time), One Must Fall: 2097 replaced the human fighters of One Must Fall with robots. In-game competitors were connected to a machine which allowed them direct control as well as sensation of their robot counterparts. Eleven robots and ten customizable pilots were available for play, along with five arenas and four tournaments. The game was later patched to include multiplayer support. On February 10, 1999, OMF:2097 was declared freeware (free for download) by the developers. One Must Fall 2097 has developed a cult following over the years on the internet. One Must Fall: Battlegrounds Released in 2003 by Diversions Publishing and Trisynergy Inc. after Epic denied the use of the Unreal engine, One Must Fall: Battlegrounds brought the series into the third dimension, as well as online. Five of the robots from 2097 have remained on, but their appearances have changed drastically. In addition, three new robots were added, and there are twelve 3-D arenas for play. However dated graphics engine and confusing gameplay hindered Battlegrounds to receive the same success and popularity as 2097.
