Oliver RiedelOllie Riedel (ne Oliver Riedel) (b. November 4, 1971) is a German musician, most notable for his membership in the German rock band Rammstein. Timeline Born in 1971 in Schwerin an only child. Interviwer: Did you have a lot of problems with your parents? Ollie: Not a lot at all. My parents are quite young, which is good. Because the age difference isn't that big, we had it good with each other. My father and mother also liked the same music as me. We were almost more like friends the family. Interviwer: But of course you did tease your brothers and sisters...Oliver:No, because I don't have any, too bad. But if I would have had them, I would definately have teased them! 1974 - 1986 Virtually nothing is known about Ollie during his childhood and teenage years, when he learned to play guitar/bass, or where he went to school. Presumably it was in Schwerin. Break-Out: But you did learn something... Ollie: Not much. My mother thought it was ridiculous that I had such terrible teachers and she knew I hated school. I didn't need to do my homework for her, isn't that great?! Instead of that I rather went sporting (played sports). 1989 -18 Wall comes down, November 9th, Germany starts path to reunification. 1990- 19 Ollie playing in folk-fiddle band called The Inchboktables. 1993- 22 Ollie's first trip to the USA with Till Lindemann, Christoph Schneider and Richard Z. Kruspe-Bernstein. Richard begins working with Schneider and Ollie, creating the Rammstein sound. Till begins to write lyrics, possibly based on phrases and words from poems that he was beginning to write. Till: I used to drum in a punk band that consisted of bass and drums. We used to work with guest-guitarists, usually Paul and Richard. We did a short tour where I changed instruments with the bassist in the encore, that was such a success, that Richard insisted on starting a project in which I would sing. Other people joined the band but only when I left Schwerin for Berlin did it take serious form. 1994- 23 They entered the Berlin Senates Music contest, won it and that allowed them to record a four track demo to take to record companies. September 1995 Herzeleid was released. August 1997 Sehnsucht was released. April 2001 Mutter was released. During the promo for Mutter, Olli's wife was reported to be pregnant, so he is a father of at least one child. Finished last date of the European Mutter tour 13th July 2002. It has been reported that at this time Rammstein were seriously discussing whether to continue or not in their present form. It was decided that they should all take a year off and then reconsider whether to continue. 2003- 32 Started work on fourth album, which was to prove a turning point in Rammsteins sound and maturity. 2004 -33 September-Release of Reise Reise Tour in November. Followed by hugely successful sold out European tour of 10 countries lasting 4 months. 2005 -34 After completing the 'Ahoi' tour in February, Rammstein are due to play 4 dates in Berlin, returning to the Wuhlheide open air arena almost exactly 7 years after their sell out concerts of August 1998. They are scheduled to release a new album, containing new songs and songs remaining from recording Reise Reise in late 2005/early 2006. Personal characteristics Height: the consensus is 6' 8" /2.03 m and weighs approx 86 kgs/190 lbs. Olli says he likes: He likes photography and sports, especially skateboarding and surfing. It has been said he is the most computer literate member of the band. Trained as a plasterer after leaving school. He has two children, one of whom is a girl called Emma, and is divorced from her mother. His current marital status is unknown. There is a website that states his father and brother were killed when he was in his teens, and he went to live with his estranged mother. This is rubbish. Quotes from Oliver Riedel Interviewer: We met Oliver in the Madrid Palace Hotel. The first thing we had to ask him was about the rumors we've heard about a possible separation. The rumors were true... "We never wanted to, but after Mutter we had some difficult times because the third album is the most difficult one and we had a lot of pressure on us. We also had our differences between the group members and everyone's expectations were different. We took a year to rest, and after that we realize that we wanted to be together and to go on."
