Ocean Pines, Maryland

Ocean Pines is a census-designated place located in Worcester County, Maryland. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 10,496.

Geography

Ocean Pines is located at 38°23'1" North, 75°9'10" West (38.383692, -75.152755). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 24.1 km² (9.3 mi²). 17.6 km² (6.8 mi²) of it is land and 6.5 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 27.10% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 10,496 people, 4,604 households, and 3,457 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 597.7/km² (1,548.1/mi²). There are 7,083 housing units at an average density of 403.4/km² (1,044.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 96.18% White, 2.05% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.91% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,604 households out of which 20.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% are married couples living together, 5.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.9% are non-families. 19.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.58. In the CDP the population is spread out with 17.1% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 31.0% from 45 to 64, and 25.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 50 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.2 males. The median income for a household in the CDP is $49,707, and the median income for a family is $54,905. Males have a median income of $36,705 versus $27,793 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $26,144. 6.2% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.4% of those under the age of 18 and 1.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
