Nyenrode Business Universiteit

Nyenrode Business Universiteit is The Netherlands' only private university. It was founded in 1946 by top excecutive of the Dutch companies AKZO, KLM, Philips, Shell and Unilever as Universiteit Nijenrode. In 1982 it was recognized as a university by the Dutch government. In its capacity as an accredited university, it grants a Master's degrees in its Management program. However, Nyenrode's main focus is on its role as a Business School; its main offerings consist of MBA and MSc in Management programs. In fact, since 1998 it's offered a Dual Degree program that results both in the accredited MSc qualification, as well as an MBA for its Management program. Unlike other universities in the Netherlands, Nyenrode has a costly selection process that involves taking a GMAT test and a EUR 150 interview. The tuition fees themselves are significantly higher than at any other university in The Netherlands. Nyenrode is therefore often viewed as an elitist institution. Its historical roots as a business school are reflected by the tuition fees, and the fact that they will accept any Bachelor degree as a prerequisite for their Master's program (unlike other universities, which usually require a relevant Bachelor's program to apply for a Master's program). Also, the students attending Nyenrode are of diverse nationalities, and teaching is in English.
