Nova 96.9

Nova 96.9 is a commerical radio station based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is owned by DMG Radio Australia, and promises to play 'never more than 2 ads in a row', a policy which it strictly adheres to.

Station format

Before its establishment in 2001, the Sydney radio market was considered by many to be bland, no new commercial licenses having been given for 25 years. One of the driving forces behind the creation of Nova was the growing demographic of youth who were embracing the anti-pop movement fronted by such artists as Avril Lavigne, but for whom Triple J was still too edgy. Initially the music was very similar to Triple J's style. However over time Triple J has drifted into a slightly more alternative style, with Nova drifting back slightly towards the other commercial stations. Along with its sister stations Nova 100 Melbourne, Nova 91.9 Adelaide, Nova 106.9 Brisbane and Nova 93.7 Perth, it has consistently topped the ratings in these markets in 2003-04. It has ousted 2Day FM in Sydney, perhaps due to the comedy of Merrick and Rosso in the morning.

DJ Lineup

Nova 96.9 can be heard on 96.9 FM in the Greater Sydney region. For all intents and purposes, it can be received in all Sydney suburbs, west to the Blue Mountains, south to Moss Vale and Wollongong, and north to the Central Coast and some parts of Newcastle.
