Northville Township, MichiganNorthville Charter Township is a charter township located in Wayne County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 21,036. The city of Northville is located on the northern end of the township. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 43.0 km² (16.6 mi²). 42.6 km² (16.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.96% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 21,036 people, 8,119 households, and 5,569 families residing in the township. The population density is 493.7/km² (1,278.5/mi²). There are 8,480 housing units at an average density of 199.0/km² (515.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 89.31% White, 4.39% African American, 0.28% Native American, 4.30% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 1.25% from two or more races. 1.77% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 8,119 households out of which 28.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.5% are married couples living together, 6.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.4% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.93. In the township the population is spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 86.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.2 males. The median income for a household in the township is $81,541, and the median income for a family is $101,998. Males have a median income of $76,460 versus $43,198 for females. The per capita income for the township is $40,258. 2.5% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.3% of those under the age of 18 and 3.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
