(1977) | Northern Lights/Southern Cross was the seventh album by Canadian-American rockers The Band, the first album to be recorded at their new California studio, Shangri-La, and the first album of all-new material since 1971's Cahoots. Consisting of eight extended-length tracks all credited to guitarist Robbie Robertson, it was the last studio album conceived as such by the classic line-up. The album could easily be called "Garth Hudson's album". Always a dominant force on the albums, the recording of Northern Lights/Southern Cross using a 24-track console allowed Hudson to paint musical pictures like never before.
