No War But The Class War

No War But The Class War (NWBTCW) has been used as the name for a number of anti-authoritarian, anti-capitalist groups. This name originated as a parody of the Muslim saying "There is no God but God". The first NWBTCW group appeared in London during the 1990-1991 Gulf War. The group dissolved after the war stopped. The second NWBTCW group appeared in London during the 1999 Kosovo War. This too dissolved after the war stopped. The third NWBTCW group appeared in London following the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001. Efforts, particularly by the Communist Workers' Organisation, to turn this into a network of groups across England failed. It transmuted itself into the No War But The Class War Discussion Group which eventually also dissolved. The name was taken up by a group in the San Francisco Bay Area. This was endorsed by the Anarchist-Communists of Berkeley, the International Makhnovist Support Apparatus of the Einsteinist Tendency, Kevin Keating's Mission Yuppie Eradication Project, the Black Hat Bloc, the Aufheben Reading Circle, Provos Action, and the Internationalist Communist Group. No War But The Class War has been a slogan used by people not necessarily linked to any of these groups.
