No Surrender, No Retreat is an episode from the fourth season of the science-fiction television series Babylon 5.

Plot synopsis

Sheridan organizes a strike to liberate Proxima 3. After learning of the murder of 10,000 civilians by Clarks forces Sheridan finally decides to take the offensive. He gets support from the league then takes the white Star Fleet to Proxima III to liberate it from an assult by six ships of Clarks forces. In the event the Vesta under Sheridans old friend Macky defects while one ship flees and one won't fight. The Nemesis surrenders after heavy damage. Of the two ships who attacked the civilians the Pollox is destroyed by accident while the Heracles surrenders. After the battle Sheridan gives the Captains three choices. 1) Go Home (and face Clark's wrath) 2) Stay and defend the colony 3) Sign on for the war for a free Earth. Though the crew of the heracles will have to face a Court Marshal after the war. In the end the Heracles withdraws from the field, one ship stays to look after proxima and two sign on. Meanwhile Londo and G'Kar sign a joint (!) declaration of support for Sheridan (though G'Kar does not sign on the same page) and Garibaldi leaves for Mars, he does not expect to return.

Arc significance

This is the point at which the s**t hits the fan with Earth. From this point on the War will not stop till Earth is free. This is very importent in the arc and give the name for the whole year. This episode also moves Garibaldi closer to his Judas role and sees the first moves that will somehow make G'Kar and Londo friends 20 years later.

Trivia

The Alexander is visable in the fleet that is assembling at Proxima after the battle. Notice the bit where the badguys send out a fighter probe. It's a Thunderbolt but the cockpit we see for the pilot is that of a normal Starfury. Londo offers G'Kar a drink. G'Kar once offered Londo a drink to peace in "The Coming of Shadows" little realising Londo had just fired the first shots of the Centuri/Narn war.
