Nirj Deva

Niranjan Joseph Aditya Deva (born 1948) is a politician in the United Kingdom, and Member of the European Parliament for the South East England region for the Conservative Party. He was Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth from 1992, but lost his seat to Ann Keen in the 1997 general election. Deva was educated at St Joseph's Catholic College in Colombo, and Loughborough University. He has been an aeronautical engineer, acientist, and a company chairman and director from 1997–99. He was a Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Scottish Office from 1996–97. Since 1985, he has been a Deputy Lord Lieutenant of London. He was chairman of the Bow Group in 1981 and on the council of the Royal Commonwealth Society from 1976–80. In the European Parliament, Deva is Conservative spokesman on development and cooperation.
