Nicolae Malaxa

Nicolae Malaxa (10/22 December 1884-1965) was a Romanian engineer and industrialist. Born in Huşi, in a family with Greek origins, he is considered the founder of modern Romanian industry, forming the national industries which bore his own name. Through his work as an engineer, inter-bellic Romania was said by some to have become one of the first countries in the world to have materialised the modern nationalised industrial concept. He died 1965 in the United States. Nicolae Malaxa contributed to the development of Romania in several ways: by directly assisting in the editing of the Enciclopedia Romniei (The Encyclopedia of Romania); by financially sustaining the Societatea Scriitorilor Romni (The Society of Romanian Writers); by helping numerous young people in pursuing their education; by promoting the application of modern architecture in industrial construction; and by forming new policies in the construction and utilisation of Romanian train carriages. Together with his collaborator Henry Holban, he created an integrated strategy for Romania's industrial sector. Malaxa, Nicolae Malaxa, Nicolae Malaxa, Nicolae
