Nfpa Fire DiamondThe NFPA fire diamond is a diamond (rhombus) divided into 4 subdivisions, each with a separate color and meaning. It is used so that in an emergency someone (An EMT, say) can look at the image and easily tell what kind of risks the emergency entails and hence any particular equipiment and/or risks/procedures that must be taken (EG. Calling a HAZMAT cleanup crew). Symbolisim The 4 divisions are colored, blue (Health hazard), red (flammability), yellow (Reactivity), and white (Special notice). Each (except for special notice) is graduated on a scale from 0 (No hazard/Not flammable/Not reactive) to 4 (Severe hazard/Easily catches fire/liable to spontaneous combustion). The "Special notice" area will contain 1 or more of 4 symbols: In the image, we see that the substance in question presents s mild to moderate health risk, is highly flammable and is a strong reactant. It also does noteworthy things in the presence of water. (This is probably elemental sodium or potassium)
