Newberry Memorial OrganTheNewberry Memorial Organ is one of the greatest orchestral organs in North America. Located in Woolsey Hall at Yale University, the organ has almost 10,000 pipes. The first part of the organ was built by the Hutchings-Votey Organ Company of Boston in 1902. The organ was expanded in 1915 by the Steere & Son Organ Company] of Springfield, Massachusetts. The organ was expanded again to its current size in 1928 by the Skinner Organ Company of Boston (Op. 722). The Woolsey Hall Organ (Newberry Memorial Organ) was built in 1901 by Hutchings, improved mechanically and almost doubled in size in 1915 by Steere, and entirely rebuilt and greatly enlarged in 1928 by the Skinner Organ Company. Consultants were Harry B. Jepson, university organist, and G. Donald Harrison. One of the largest most outstanding instruments of this period, it has been kept in excellent playing condition and is utilized throughout the academic year for student organ recitals, organ crawls, gala events and concerts. It is maintained by the Associate Curators of Organs, Joseph F. Dezeda, and Nicholas Thompson-Allen. Click here for the organ's specificiations.
